Furnishings And Pew Carvings
A lot of the carvings featured on this page are in 'plain-sight' on pews and larger items of furnishings etc. Other carvings are perhaps much less well known, largely due to their location tucked away in un-lit recesses of the organ, or because of their diminutive scale, some no bigger than a £2. coin
The pews of St John have a huge range of intricate carvings, many depicting religious or every day life in a village like tideswell. and are not easy to locate or even see. A lot of what is on show can be credited to one Tideswell family and one man in particular, Advent Hunstone who was born in Tideswell.
